The Carver |
Cast bronze, edition of 7, height: 21" |
Carver reminds
me of the African sculptor whose creations reflect heart-felt traditions and beliefs. He was appreciated by the European
only after the European himself had "...begun to aim at a cubist or expressionist style. Only then did he realize
that, long before him, the negro, proceeding from completely different assumptions, had found the most startling
forms in which to convey his spiritual visions".* |
